Here are a few of the generic, most common set of vows I normally use along with the average time it takes to perform the ceremony. Please let me know if you want to include or delete the word “God” from any set of vows. If there isn’t a preference, the civil ceremony vows are spoken. If possible, we try to personalize all vows, so these may or not be exactly the vows you repeat. If you are looking for Commitment Ceremony vows, please scroll down. You may also write your own vows if you wish. If you wish to choose your own vows, just let me know. For marriage is a gift given by God to promote social order and to increase human happiness._____ and _____, as you prepare to pledge your vows to each other, let me remind you that marriage made in heaven is a union of two lives — two hearts that beat as one — so welded together that they walk and work in love. A husband and wife should bear each other’s burdens as well as share each other’s joy. Remember that you will have to cultivate the art of living together -- be considerate, loving, helpful and tenderhearted, always putting the other ones needs first and holding one another up in love. The vows which you are about to take should be as binding in adversity as they are in prosperity. As a symbol of your union, will you now join hands? _____, in taking _____ to be your wife, I ask that you promise to love and cherish her, to honor and sustain her, in sickness as in health, in poverty as in wealth, in the bad that may darken your days, in the good that may brighten your ways, and to be true to her until death alone shall part you. Do you promise? If so, say "I do." _____,in taking ______ to be your husband, I ask that you promise to love and cherish him, to honor and sustain him, in sickness as in health, in poverty as in wealth, in the bad that may darken your days, in the good that may brighten your ways, and to be true to him until death alone shall part you. Do you promise? If so, say "I do." Can I have the rings please? _____, take her ring and place it on the 3rd finger of her left hand and repeat after me: I _____ take you _____, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish ‘til death do us part according to God’s holy ordinance, and with this ring I pledge to you my love. _____, take his ring and place it on the 3rd finger of his left hand and repeat after me: I _____ take you _____, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish ‘til death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance, and with this ring I pledge to you my love. _____ and _____, in these moments I have heard you pledge your love and faith to each other. God saw you seal your solemn vows of marriage by the giving and receiving of rings. Now it is my joy and personal privilege to declare you husband and wife. Congratulations...You may kiss the bride. Commitment Ceremony Vows Both partners would repeat the
same vows. You come here today to affirm your love for each other. Please repeat after me: Do you, (name), affirm your covenant of love and fidelity to (name of other partner) and your intention to live together in a committed relationship? Will you love him, comfort him, honor him, and keep him in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you live. If so, say I do. Please repeat after me: I place this ring on your finger as a symbol of my constant faith, abiding love, and belief that I was chosen to live my life with you. From this day forward, when you need strength, I will give you mine. When you need encouragement, I will listen and understand. When you need solace, comfort and the silent speech of love, I will be there. I will support your dreams and goals, and strive to keep our lives filled with laughter and joy. Where there are troubles, I will stand with you. You have captured my mind and soul, and I commit them to our union. I bring to you the very best person that I can be. Stay with me, learn with me, live by my side. You may also wish to write your own vows and many
